Joanna Maxwell

Joanna has 20+ years’ experience as a coach and mentor, is the author of the highly successful book Rethink Your Career in your 40s, 50s and 60s, is a former Director of Age Discrimination at the Human Rights Commission and is currently Director, Age Research at the Commission. She helps people in their 40s and beyond to reinvent their work and lives, so that they can reclaim their future and create the life they want for the coming decades.

After recovering from her first career as a corporate lawyer, Joanna founded her own company as a trainer, coach and writer. Since then, she’s worked with hundreds of clients: from the paediatrician who became a glass artist, to the property valuer transitioning to his own business, to the teacher who wanted more time to travel and ‘give back’.

Using evidence-based research, she coaches people to develop a clear sense of who they are, where they are going and what they want, whether that includes changing career, or adjusting the balance between work and the other things they want to do – so that they can make a map of what the coming decades might offer. As a mentor to the WoWT team, she has had significant input into the development of our Career Transition Program.

Her book, Rethink Your Career in your 40s, 50s and 60s was released in mid-2017 by HarperCollins and won the inaugural RSA Australian Career Book of the Year. She is currently completing a second book on the new retirement.

She has a variety of coaching certifications. She has been described by Ray Martin, with whom she did a radio program on people over 50 making career transitions as having “a way of cutting to the chase, identifying the problem and offering some colourful options”.

Sue West

Sue is an experienced coach who is committed to supporting people in their career resets to make decisions and take actions toward the future they want for themselves. Sue has10+ years of coaching and mentoring experience. She has had a long career in executive roles in government, universities and the health sector and also has wide Board experience.

She is passionate about ensuring people have access to appropriate career development support. She is a highly relational person and brings a warmth to her coaching approach. She doesn’t shy away from challenging clients and pushing their ideas, but her style means that clients feel supported in the process.
